FBBL Broomball is an outdoor (mostly), year-round, all-weather (except lightning) sport — think field hockey but played with homemade “brooms” and a large tennis ball. Games are currently not being played, but typically are played on an open basis in the Village. Outdoor games are on the soccer field or the ‘Blackhawk Glade’ between Blackhawk Blvd and Shabbona St, depending on the number of players that day. Indoor games are played about once a week on the Rec Center court for players that have a gym membership. Games are at lunchtime (12:15-12:45) but may include 5 o’clock games during warmer months. Contact Chris Greer  x4847 for more information and to be added to the daily signup list.

Pickleball is a slower and smaller court version of tennis. Beginner paddles will be provided. Pickleball is ideal for those who don’t move as fast as they used to but want to get some exercise and have fun at the same time. Contact Carl Penson at x 3712 for more information. Gym membership is required. If you are not a gym member and would like to try out before joining you may obtain a one day free trial pass from the Recreation office.

The Outdoor Soccer League is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm till dark at the Village Soccer Field beginning May – October. All levels are welcome. League is open to all adult Fermilab employees, visitors, interns and contractors. Contact Grigory Eremeev.

Come join Fermilab’s summer COED 14 inch (low-velocity ball) softball league, new teams forming now. This is for men and women. All are welcome. Not on a team, we can put you on one. Games are played in the village on Wednesday or Thursday nights at 5:30 p.m. Season starts in May. Season is 15 games plus double elimination playoffs. All teams are eligible for playoffs. This is not your typical park district league, there is no experience required and there is no cost to join the league. The only requirement is to have some fun, get a little exercise, and enjoy the outdoors. Contact Chris Greer  x4847 for more information or visit the league site
